Booker Shortlist 2022 – The Trees
Is this one at the top of the Tree?
BookWorm: Why it Could Win: Important subject tackled in a highly amusing and accessible way.
Why it Might Not Win: Toss of a coin.
Tracy: Why it Could Win: This has been timely for over 400 years in the US, and will be for a very long time, I’m afraid. Every time I think of this book, I remember something different, and that it sticks with me this much later is a big deal.
Why it Might Not Win: This is a world prize, and the story of Emmitt Till isn’t one that is familiar to many people outside of the US. Heck, it’s not familiar to a lot of people in the US.
Nicole: Why it Could Win: It’s a timely, powerful book with an important message.
Why it Might Not Win: Maybe just a little too genre.
Anita: Why it Could Win: Tight, funny writing about an event that only a great author could really satirize successfully.
Why it Might Not Win: Unsatisfying, flat ending
Lisa: Why it Could Win: I thought this was brilliant. it starts out as a mystery with a sense of humor, but then slowly turns into something else — something much bigger. This is my favorite on the short list.
Why it Might Not Win: It’s my favorite.
