Booker International Shortlist 2023: Boulder by Eva Baltasar

Boulder

Boulder by Eva Baltasar

Will the judges be bowled over by this one or will it leave them stony faced?

BookWorm:

Why it Could Win:. The writing is beautiful and the story really flowed. Boulder was a great character and I enjoyed spending time in her head watching as her relationships change and develop.

Why it Might Not Win:  It is rather short.

Rachel:

Why it Could Win: Boulder is such a strong character! I may not have loved everything about this novella, but it has stayed with me way beyond the 112 pages I spent with it. Which seems quite fitting, really.

Why it Might Not Win:  I know the author is a poet, but sadly I found the writing/translation just a little Too Much, a little overwritten, to the point that it was a distraction

Tracy:

Why it Could Win: The writing is good, it’s timely and it is a quick read.

Why it Might Not Win:  The trope of SPOILER ALERT: one partner leaving because they’re unprepared for commitment is tired, even if it’s same sex.

What do you think is this the winner?
