October Roundup
As Jen is really busy in the real world you are stuck with me for a little while. I apologise in advance for not being as on the ball in terms of updates and formatting as Jen usually is but rest assured normal service will resume soon.
So the top book story from October was the result of the Man Booker Prize. For any reader who has been living under a rock for the past few weeks the winner was The Milkman by Anna Burns. Well done to all our panellists who predicted this they were Jen, Nicole and Andrew.
How does everyone feel about this result? Let us know in the comments.
Personally this was probably my least favourite shortlist book and I am disappointed that the way more original The Long Take didn’t win.
Read Around the World in October we visited Uganda. I chose to read All Our Names by Dinaw Mengestu a book about 2 men living in post colonial Uganda and facing the dangers of revolution this was a solid 3 star read.
What books did you read for Uganda?
For November we will be visiting Slovenia, will you be joining us and what will you be reading?
I have not yet found a book to read so recommendations will be handy 🙂
My personal roundup for October was 13 books a good month for me. Unfortunately it wasn’t a very diverse month as 9 of these were written by men.
November Releases that I am looking forward to:
A Ladder to the Sky John Boyne
Hazards of Time Travel Joyce Carol Oates
Becoming Michelle Obama
What books are you looking forward to?
I am reading Veronica Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho for #Readaroundtheworld for Slovenia and as for Milkman, it both awed me at times and irritated me at others. I felt that it highly deserved its place on the shortlist and yet didn’t deserve to be the winner.

I went to my local library today and they had Veronika Decides to Die on the shelf I am taking this as a sign that I should join you in reading it during November 🙂

My favorite reads from October were Loitering With Intent by Muriel Spark and Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker. I liked Milkman- though it wasn’t my favorite from the list. I’m looking forward to continuing our Game of Thrones read, and finishing my stack of books from 2018.
