Escape to the slopes when real life is murder…

Synopsis from Goodreads: You won’t want to leave. . . until you can’t.

Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel.

An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin’s taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

Arriving in the midst of a threatening storm, Elin immediately feels on edge–there’s something about the hotel that makes her nervous. And when they wake the following morning to discover Laure is missing, Elin must trust her instincts if they hope to find her. With the storm closing off all access to the hotel, the longer Laure stays missing, the more the remaining guests start to panic.

Elin is under pressure to find Laure, but no one has realized yet that another woman has gone missing. And she’s the only one who could have warned them just how much danger they are all in.

My Thoughts:  I enjoyed suspending disbelief and spending time with Elin in the Sanatorium. The location is very much a part of this story and is a new take on the locked house mystery. Being trapped by an avalanche allows Elin to take part in an investigation which would normally be handled by the local police it also means the murderer is someone close which adds to the sense of menace. No-one can get in to help and no-one can get out to escape.

I can see this being made into a movie as all the elements are there. Isolated location, avalanche and a snowstorm, unreliable characters, troubled family relations, an old sanatorium, medical equipment incorporated into the décor and of course a murderer on the loose. I can picture this being visually stunning.

A quick creepy read that kept me guessing.

We want to hear from you! Have you read this book? What did you think?

Totally agree with you. You definitely have to suspend disbelief that they would look to an out of country policewomen to help investigate a crime but once past that it kept me turning the pages.

Sounds interesting. I like locked door mysteries.. it just sucks they didn’t add more horror. With a title like that.. there’s so much potential.
Can I ask.. Did it really pull you in?

As Gail says once you get over the fact that what happens is extremely unlikely then yes the book did pull me in. It also has a few horror elements but these are not overplayed.

I’ve been wondering about this one. I’ll take the plunge. At some point. My TBR list is very, very long.
