Synopsis from Goodreads: Could your dream home be your worst nightmare?

After what happened in London, Kirsty needs a fresh start with her family.
And running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains sounds idyllic.

But then their first guest arrives.
Selena is the last person Kirsty wants to see.
It’s seventeen years since she tore everything apart.

Why has she chosen now to walk back into Kirsty’s life?
Is Selena running from something too?
Or is there an even darker reason for her visit?

Because Kirsty knows that once you invite trouble into your home, it can be murder getting rid of it . . .

Book Worm’s Thoughts:  After my recent spurt of historical & dystopian fiction I am firmly back in the present with a new thriller.

This was a solid 3 star read for me but I do have some provisos to add. Sometimes you get books that you can believe given the right set of circumstances could occur…this is not one of those you need to firmly suspended disbelief and just enjoy the ride.

Like a lot of modern thrillers this book does suffer with a twist too far as I can’t say what they actually are so let me just break the reveals down. Reveal 1) I did not see this coming. Reveal 2) This was sign posted from miles back. Reveal 3) This was the twist too far, in my opinion this added nothing to the story apart from allowing a tidier ending. Final Reveal didn’t see this one coming and it was in keeping with the earlier story.

What I enjoyed about this book was the look at how certain issues can impact an entire family and how as a family you learn to cope, move on and start again. It explores relationships especially those between parents and children and it shows that not everything is black and white and that given the right motivation most of us will do whatever it takes to protect the ones we love.

Who would enjoy this? If you need an escape from real life and are looking for something quick and not too scary to lose yourself in then this could be an ideal choice.
