Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

This saturday October 22nd is Dewey’s 24-hour Readathon and I’m are excited! We’ll even be hosting a mini-challenge here on the blog during hour 9 of the readathon. This is my second readathon and I’ve been Β spending the last few weeks preparing. Book Worm unfortunately has family plans so won’t be participating this year but hopes to join in next time.

Last time I did a poor job of preparing. I didn’t make any plans to get private reading time and my 5-year old wasn’t too excited about giving me sustained reading time. I also didn’t make any kind of reading list and ended up picking House of Leaves as my first book (a poor choice). This time around I’ve planned ahead. My husband and daughter have plans most of the day outside of the house and I’ve prepped a stack of books with enough variety to keep things interesting. Here’s my current readathon stack…

What do you think? Any Β suggestions for books I should add or books I should remove?

I hope that many of you join me this saturday because it’s a lot of fun to see familiar faces and check in with people. For me the reading is fun but the social interaction with other readers is probably my favorite part. I’ll be posting most of my updates on Twitter and Instagram rather than this blog. As I mentioned above, we’ll also be hosting a mini challenge in hour 9 (4pm EDT) and we hope you stop by for the chance to win a cool prize. I’ll also be co-moderating two hours (4-5pm EDT) over at goodreads and I’d love to hear from you over there too.

There’s still time to sign up and I highly recommend it. There are mini-challenges every hour, prizes, social interaction, book discussions, and so much more. You can sign up and read more about it here.

We want to hear from you! Will you be participating on saturday? Which books do you want to read? What are your readathon goals?

This is the second year that I’ve heard about this Readathon. Unfortunately, I work on Saturdays. I’ll be cheering on all the participants though!

  2. Uprooted is such a fast-paced story, I think it’s great for readathons. I’m planning on participating as well. I don’t have a TBR yet, but I have some things in mind. Good luck!

    • good luck to you too! I look forward to seeing what you read. Good to hear about Uprooted, it’s one of the reasons I selected it – to break up some of the more intense, slower reads

  3. I’ll be participating for the second time. I’ve made plans to hang out at our library with coffee in the morning and then my husband will be taking the kids to the zoo for the afternoon while I settle in at home. I made a rather ambitious TBR pile for October and am behind on my NetGalley ARCs so I’m hoping this helps! πŸ™‚

    • That’s a good idea to head to the library. What kinds of books do you have on your TBR that you hope to get to?

      • You should sign up anyway since then you’ll be entered for prizes. There’s no minimum commitment required to sign up. You can opt to read however much you want

I agreed to work a shift on Saturday. So I’m going to cheat participate- I will read for 24 hours, but plan to spread it out over the weekend. My plan is to use the randomizer: I will choose a shelf and put in the number of books on it, at least for the first book. πŸ™‚
This may not be totally playing by the rules, but don’t tell my husband…he thinks it’s a weekend thing. Mwahaha

  9. I never find out about these until they’re already happening, so I think I might try it now that I’m finding out with at least a little time to prepare! I work every other Saturday and tomorrow is my Saturday off, so the timing is good. Need to start getting a TBR list together!

  10. Have to duck out of this one I’m afraid. Bulbs need planting before the sunshine goes! And I have an essay that needs to get wrestled with
