Summer Reading Challenge: 4 more days to join!

olympicsThere are four more days to join our fun summer reading challenge and earn the chance to win some cool bookish prizes! This  summer we will be hosting an Olympics-themed reading game. You will work with teams to pick out Olympic teams to sponsor for various sports categories. All reading and prizes will be awarded for individual reading so teams are more about meeting other readers and brainstorming strategy, although all members of the winning team will win a $5 Amazon gift card.

To read the full rules, check out our challenge page. We expect this to be a fun team activity that will challenge you to expand your reading horizons by pushing you to pick books to match the countries your team sponsors. Participants will be randomly assigned into teams by us. Teams will pick countries together but individual players will get to pick which books they want to read for various sports categories (sports categories will be matched to general book categories). Keep reading to see what kind of prizes you could win.

1. Grand prize: An awesome prize pack of 10 award-winning books & bookish tote bag to the person on the winning team with the highest number of points & $5 amazon gift card to each of the remaining members of the winning team. The winning member will be able to pick out their 10 books from among the winners of the following literary awards: National Book Award, National Book Critics Circle, Pulitzer Prize, PEN/Faulkner Award, Nobel Prize for Literature, Booker Prizes, Caldecott Medal, Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, Hugo Award, Nebula Award, Edgar Allan Poe Awards, or GoodReads Choice Award winners.
2. Consolation prize: $25 Amazon Gift Card to the person on second place team with the highest number of points
3. Overall prize: A personally curated box of bookish goodies (valued at a minimum of $50) for best overall individual performance across all teams. I will select a range of bookish goodies for you based on your answers to some questions. Trust me, it will be a worthy prize!
4. Takes one for the team prize: A literary poster (ships worldwide) of your choice from The Literary Company. Each team will be able to nominate one player from their team who “took one for the team.” This means a team member who volunteered to read a category no one else wanted to read (let’s face it some categories are tough) or someone who helped the team complete all categories.

*International winners will be asked to select ebooks for the grand prize and may given a gift card substitute of equal value instead of box of goodies if shipping is prohibitive or items unavailable in your country (this is unlikely since we have been able to ship prizes internationally in the past).

Question is, do you have what it takes? We hope you join us. Let us know here if you want to join by writing a comment saying you want to join.

We will post all teams on the challenge page on July 11th and we will send out an email to all members of each team with additional suggestions and your team assignment. Each team will come up with a team name and start working on picking their countries for each category. You may start reading as soon as your team has submitted your country list.

    • yay! stay tuned. I’ll be sending emails around to each team on the 11th so you’ll find out which team you’re on. It should hopefully be flexible enough that it will allow you to overlap challenges and you can always pick the ones that best match your other challenge goals.
