Booker Shortlist 2023: Prophet Song by Paul Lynch

Prophet Song by Paul Lynch
Who prophesies that this will win?
BookWorm: The scariest book on the list!
Why it Could Win: It is so relevant especially given events that have happened since it was published. It shows how easy it is for a country to slip into martial law and for citizens to be caught up in that no matter how they feel. It shows the shades of grey of conflict and how for some people there is no greater goal than survival.
Why it Might Not Win: Because as the usual the Booker judges don’t see eye to eye with me.
Jen:
Why it Could Win: It should win.
Why it Might Not Win: Because Study for Obedience will win.
Tracy:
Why it Could Win: It’s a realistic possibility, and that’s terrifying. I really hope Lynch is wrong. If not, I’m looking into the whole prepper thing, and I have some books on foraging and self-sufficiency. (Granted I’ve had those for years, and they’re on hobby farming, but..)
Why it Might Not Win: I’m really the outlier here. I didn’t like this one as much as everyone else did. However, it would be a worthy winner, and I don’t know why it shouldn’t.
Nicole:
Why it Could Win: If there’s any justice in the world, which this book shows there isn’t, it should win. It’s topical, created exactly the intended atmosphere, and it shook a lot of us who read it to the core.
Why it Might Not Win: Esi Edugyan abuses her influence as chair and pushes her pet project
Anita:
Why it Could Win: Very, very powerful book in a succinct, compelling and accessible package.
Why it Might Not Win: Because the same judging panel that selected this book also selected Western Lane which is inexplicable.
Have you read this one? Do you think is will be the winner?
