2017 Nobel Prize in Literature
The 2017 Nobel Prize in literature goes to…
Kazuo Ishiguro.
Unlike last years winner (Bob Dylan), this year’s winner makes sense to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bob Dylan but I don’t think he merited the award when there are many authors who deserve to be recognized for the craft to which they dedicate their whole life and careers.
Unlike the majority of the literary world, I don’t love Ishiguro’s books, although I have liked several. For some reason I have never really connected with them in the ways others have. I also happen to have hated his last book. That said, I think he’s talented and has a strong record of producing high quality literature that many people do love. It’s a choice that makes sense to me and he is an author who deserves to win.
The Swedish Academy stated that Ishiguro has “uncovered the abyss beneath the illusory sense of connection with the world.”

I loved Never Let Me Go and I would like to eventually get to Remains of the Day.
I agree with you, this choice makes complete sense to me. While I may not rush out and purchase all of his books on their release day, I know he is well loved and well respected in the field.

I loved Remains of the Day, Never Let Me Go and A Pale View Of Hills. An Artist Of the Floating World wasn’t great. I haven’t read the others yet.
I’m glad he won, but kind of surprised. The Vegas odds are usually on Philip Roth, Salman Rushdie or Haruki Murakami. This is so much less controversial than last year, though.

Yes, I liked. It didn’t love Remains of the Day and Never Let me go. Everyone I usually agree with love those too books though.

I agree with you — not really an author that I connected with personally; however, I know many that do. I liked (but not loved) Remains of the Day and I disliked Never Let Me Go. He is at least someone that I have heard of and read. I often haven’t heard of the non-english writers (not a bad thing because then I get exposed to new authors to try).

Remains of the Day was my favorite though I rated Never Let Me Go high too and those are the only two that I’ve read. That one was so creepy.

I disliked The Remains of the Day but loooved Never Let Me Go. Will definitely read more of his work, but not running for it, due to my previous 50/50 experience.

An Artist of the Floating World is my favourite of the titles I’ve read so far. I also really like When We Were Orphans. I enjoyed Never Let Me Go more than I expected to. Remains of the Day is an odd one for me. I saw the film first and that influenced my reading of the book. I found the film overly sentimental. I have issues with Emma Thompson’s acting generally and don’t think it’s Hopkins’s best performance, either. I kind of enjoyed the book when I read it, but find that I still think about it, years later, so I must have enjoyed it on a deeper level than I realised at the time.
I think the award of the Nobel Prize is a well deserved one. Of his generation of male British authors, Ishiguro is my favourite, and I have all his other titles lined up to read.

I loved Never Let Me Go and I would like to eventually contract to Remains of the Day.
I harmonize with you, this pick makes consummate mother wit to me. I liked (but not loved) Remains of the Day and I disliked Never Let Me Go. He is at least person that I induce heard of and study.
