I trust the panel so based on your analysist, it is either The Sellout or Do Not Say We Have Nothing. I haven’t read the latter, but in my mind The Sellout has too many American and time specific cultural references, and humor is so much in the eye of the beholder, that I think it is a more unlikely choice of the two.

I personally am really hoping for Hot Milk though because I loved it.

But I voted for Do Not Say We Have Nothing as the winner.

    • I’d be okay with Hot Milk winning. It would be an interesting winner b/c I think many really disliked it. I loved it.

    • That’s a good point about Sellout. I think that’s probably why it didn’t win the Pulitzer despite being considered a major contender.

Also, thank you for lots of entertainment with this panel – – I enjoyed all of your posts and commentary on these books, and I’m really dying to know who wins tomorrow (when normally I really wouldn’t care).

Announce already. . .I keep checking and nothing. I did see that His Bloody Project is selling the most of the shortlist and that Do Not Say We Have Nothing is leading the betting odds now.

      • Oh, and I suspect the Eileen and his bloody project are the two books that will have the highest commercial appeal but that doesn’t always translate to winning the prize

        I am so impatient!!

And yes, broad commercial appeal clearly has little to do with literary greatness, lol.

  3. I think Do Not Say We Have Nothing is the closest on the shortlist to a “typical” Booker winner due to its epic scale so I would be inclined to predict it will win too. But the Booker isn’t always predictable!

  4. I’m really hoping Madeleine Thien gets to take home the prize. I haven’t read The Sellout other than a few chapters and didn’t enjoy it.
