Most Beautiful Book Cover Winner

Beautiful book spines
This year we are hosting a scavenger hunt challenge which involves a few hidden prizes. The first of those prizes was a challenge to find (and read) the book with the most beautiful book cover. Participants competed against each other to select the book they thought would win. Two weeks ago we asked all of you to help us pick the winner. The votes are in! With 66 votes, the winner is…

Jan @ What I Think About Reading blog. Jan’s entry was One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. Here are the images she submitted of the book cover.

Congrats to Jan! Her book won over 30% of the votes. The two runners up were Jane Eyre (submitted by myself — and so glad that didn’t win since it would look improper for me to have one) and Wildwood Dancing submitted by Tanya.

Jan wins a copy of a Folio Society book. You may choose one of the following (let us know which one you want in the comments section and we will order it for you):

Animal Farm by Orwell
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter
The Blue Flower by Penelope Fitzgerald
Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Capote
Brighton Rock by Greene
The Call of the Wild by London
A Christmas Carol by Dickens
Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
Cover her Face by P.D. James
The Darling Buds of May by Bates
The Diary of a Provincial Lady by Delafield
Dickens’ London (essays by Dickens)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by R.L. Stevenson
Dream Days by Kenneth Grahame
Emil and the Detectives by Kastner
Every Man for Himself by Beryl Bainbridge
Frankenstein by Shelley
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Loos
The Girls of Slender Means by Spark
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Doyle
The Jungle Book by Kipling
The Norse Myths
Thank you, Jeeves
Goodbye to Berlin by Isherwood
Mort by Pratchett
The Diary of a Nobody by Grossmith
2001: A Space Odyssey by Clarke
Shakespeare by Burgess
Cider with Rosie by Lee

Thank you to all of you voted! June first we’ll be asking you to vote for the worst book cover.

We want to hear from you! Have you read any books with beautiful book covers? Which ones?

  1. I recently read Yann Martel’s The High Mountains of Portugal, which I thought had a very pretty cover. It’s simple, but I love the colors.

  2. Oh goodness me! Thank you! I ended up not voting for my own, I voted for Akata Witch.

There’s almost too much choice on that list of books, but I’d like Every Man For Himself by Beryl Bainbridge, please. The only one of hers I’ve read is Injury Time, which was bizarrely funny.

I love The Sleeper and the Spindle cover – it has a dust jacket made of semi-transparent parchment and creates a layered, veiled look for the book. The white, black and gold works fantastic together as well: http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1412343723l/23301545.jpg
