Last chance to sign up for our book bracket challenge (full rules here)! I’ve created a pool over at CBS for anyone who wants to play along. You can find that here. Password is: book madness. Brackets lock around noon today so make your picks this morning or you will be shut out. Please note that only about half of our participants have created CBS brackets (some have emailed their spreadsheets directly to me) so the list of participants over at CBS represents about half of the entries.
The grand prize requires that you read books you pick from your bracket but one prize involves predictions only with no reading.

Okay now that things are underway let me get a few things straight in my head. If I picked Baylor/Station Eleven to defeat Yale/New World Fairy Tales I have picked badly 😦
If I go ahead and read Station Eleven I earn half a point because you are being kind to us on first round losses.
I would get nothing for reading the winning book, New World Fairy Tales because I did not choose it
I correctly chose Duke/Fifth Season to defeat UNCW/All the Birds. If I read Fifth Season I get a point and some sort of point reward for correct prognostication.
Am I rewarded for correct prognostication even if I do not read the matched book?

yes to everything except your last question. The two prizes will be considered separately so points for predictions will only be used for the predictions prize. The grand prize points will only be based on having read the book. That said if you read the fifth season and it wins the whole thing, you would get the points it gets from each round win (a total of about 26 points). For the grand prize you don’t get points toward the grand prize if you don’t read the book but it will count toward your predictions points. So essentially, all participants will get two sets of scores: one for the reading/grand prize and one set for just predictions. Does that make sense?

and now that I realize it, I think I just said essentially the same thing as you did. In other words you will get credit for both predictions and reads but each set of points is allocated for different prizes. and yes, for the predictions prize, you get the points without reading the books.

And station eleven was a huge upset with most people in our group picking it to advance. So it’s bad for you but less so because most people did the same. I didn’t pick it because I didn’t love it and I read somewhere that this could be an upset
I will be updating score on the challenge page just not in real time like CBS. Probably twice a day during tournament days
