Winter Reading Challenge: Reader’s Room Scavenger Hunt

scavenger huntIt’s time to announce our upcoming challenge: The Reader’s Room Scavenger Hunt! The challenge will start December 1 and end March 15, 2016. Detailed instructions will be posted on our challenge page (in the pull down challenge menu tab under “winter challenge”). Keep reading to find out more about the upcoming challenge.

Our winter reading challenge is a literary scavenger hunt! In the month of December we will be revealing daily scavenger hunt items. We’ll also post the items on twitter each day (so follow us there if you don’t already). It’s up to you to decide which items and tasks you want to complete. You can choose to read as few or as many books as you wish. There is no minimum or maximum.

Some clues will require you to take a picture of your book or a picture of you at a specific location. We have created a Wikia page where you can post all these items. Some clues will require that you dig around our blog to find the answers. Other items will require that you think creatively and do some research.

For each clue, you must find the appropriate book for the item, read it, review it, and post any required photo evidence. The blog format unfortunately doesn’t allow you to comment with photos so we have created several options for posting your evidence. The easiest way is to simply post your review and photo evidence on our Wikia page. To do so, just go to the main page and you’ll see a list of December dates in the main page post. When an item is available, we’ll post a hyperlink next to the date. Just click the hyperlink and it will take you to the page for that specific item where you can post your photo evidence. Alternatively, you can post your photos on twitter with hashtag #rrscavengerhunt or on our Facebook page.

Participating Bloggers: You can post your reviews with photo evidence on your own blogs and then link back to those posts so others can check them out. Just make sure your mention our challenge when posting.

There will be a prize for the person who reads the most and a prize for one randomly selected winner from among all participants. We will also have some random prizes for a few specific clues — for people we think picked the best book for that clue. So choose your items wisely because we won’t reveal which clues until the end of the challenge.

So what do you say? Are you in or out? Sign up here and check out the detailed instructions on our challenge page.

Ask your questions here before the challenge starts so you are ready. It’s a more involved challenge than ones we’ve done in the past so make sure you check out the Wikia page, Twitter account, and/or Facebook page so you can decide how you want to post your photo evidence.

Sign up early and check out our Wikia page to get a head start on the competition since our Dec 1 item is up already.

Me, too. Though I have to say my author birthday calendar scared me a bit: the day before mine is Samuel Beckett’s birthday.

      • That would have been interesting! I had to dig around to find a website that included more than sportspersons, actors and musicians. Although I would have read Ad-Rock & Mike D’s Beasties memoir if they’d finished it!

  8. I read on the challenge page that we can post pics to facebook. But, not all will need a photo, correct? (I don’t have a smartphone, and I don’t upload pics off my camera often. Unless I figure out how to use pics from my newish tablet…) I’d lean more towards doing ones that don’t need a photo, but I wanted to confirm that they won’t all need a photo, correct? Thanks!

    • Yes that is correct, but some of the more fun ones do require photos. You can always just take the photos and upload them all at the end so you don’t have to upload lots of times. Probably about half require photos

      • Thanks, Jen. Maybe that’s what I’ll plan to do then (unless I can figure out my posting pics with my tablet!) – upload the photos all the photos at the end.Count me in, then! A longer lasting challenge seems to be the better way to go for me.

    • Don’t forget to post your item 25 recommendation by end of day tomorrow 1/6/16. This is the only item that has a “deadline” for one step. You don’t need to read anything (yet). All you need to do is give a book recommendation that you think others will enjoy. This item comes with a hidden prize so if you are going to pick to read/complete any item, this is a good one :). I’m posting this as reminders to everyone who has signed up for the challenge. I couldn’t tell who all posted already (because I there was at least 1 person who didn’t sign in when the posted) so ignore if you already posted your recommendation.

Please post the recommendation on the Wikia page (link is attached to the date in the list above – dec 25)
