Spring Cleaning Challenge

Spring-Clean-Sad

Welcome to our newest reading challenge! Are you like us with a TBR shelf that just keeps growing? Time to clean up that TBR. And what better motivation to clean up that shelf, than cool prizes?

In order to participate you must have either a goodreads or shelfari account & you must be willing to give us access to your shelf (send us your GR profile link or shelfari shelf link).

This challenge will start March 20th (first official day of spring) and will end June 21st (first day of summer).

Spring Cleaning Challenge

Step 1: Sign up to participate. You do this simply by stating in the comments section that you want to participate and which account you’ll be using (shelfari or goodreads). There’s no downside or obligation to actually do anything after you sign up.

Step 2: Clean up your TBR. What does this mean? It means, that it’s time to go through your pile of TBR (to be read) books and delete the ones you’re no longer interested in reading or cross off any you have accidentally forgotten to mark as “read.” For some of you, this number will be zero.

Step 3: Let us know when you are done cleaning your shelf.

Step 4: Wait for us to give you a book. How will we do this? We will scan your TBR shelf and we will select a book we want you to read.

Step 5: You must read the book and provide a minimum of a 3 sentence review once you have completed the book.  Email your review to jenlane3@yahoo.com. No exchanges — Once we assign you a book, that’s the book you have to read to move on. This is why cleaning up your TBR (step 2) is so important!

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 & 5 as many times as you like until the end of the challenge.

For each book that you complete, you will be assigned 1 point. We will keep a running tally of standings and this will be posted in our “challenges” page — found in our menu bar.

At the end of the challenge, all the points that you accrue will be used as entries into our raffle to win some cool prizes including Amazon gift card, books, and book-related stuff. So if you read 1 book, you get one entry, if you read 10, you get 10 entries, and so on. All winners will be selected randomly through random.org.

One final rule — Books added to your TBR after today (March 20, 2015) will NOT be included in the challenge. So no sneaky adding of books last minute to try and get a better draw. You can keep adding books during those months, we just won’t count them in our selection when we assign you a book.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

NOTE: We recommend you try to get your books from the library if possible. But, if you plan to buy your books from Amazon, please go through our store to purchase your books.

The link to the store is http://astore.amazon.com/therearoo020-20.

If you access the books through our link, we get a small (and we’re talking cents here) portion back that we use to then give back out to you in better prizes.

So, who’s in? Sign up in the comments section.

    • Okay. Book 2 you have me picking for you since in all likelihood BW is asleep 🙂

I’ve picked A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Marra. I added it to our store (link below) in case you need to buy it. But it should hopefully be available from your library. I picked it mainly for selfish reasons because it’s on my physical bookshelf and i’m trying to decide what to read in the next few months. But, in a less selfish motivation, it’s supposed to be very good and gets high ratings across the board so I am hopeful that it is a book you will enjoy.

  9. I’m in! Kate on Shelfari. TBR cleaned up, everything either already in my possession or on hold with the library. One request though, I’ve got about 15 Pratchett titles on there representing 5 different story arcs. Please don’t ask me to read out of sequence 😦 I’m a little OCD about that. If you tell me to read the last book in the City Watch arc I’m going to have to read three others first. That’s just the way I am.

I thought it was okay, didn’t love it (will review it soon on here) but it is a quick and fairly entertaining read. I added it to our store. It’s only $6 on Amazon so I think it’s on sale currently

      • okay, How about A Wrinkle in Time by L’Engle? I think it is a PBT 100, one of the older books (in terms of date added to your TBR), and a relatively quick read.

Also, can you make sure your TBR is updated with regards to books you own? This is related to one of the prizes at the end. If you win, I want to make sure you don’t get a book you already own or have read. You have probably already done this but if not, it’s easy on Shelfari if you go to list view then check the own box for books you already have.

The Secret Garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett
        5/5

This is one of those books that you think you’ve read but maybe you haven’t. Have you? That’s how I was. Even when I started it, I felt sure that I’d read it before, but that soon passed.
What a fun story! I absolutely adored the characters. There was the moors, and a house with a hundred rooms, surly servants, a crabby rich old father, a sour-faced orphan-girl, a boy who thinks he’s dying, and a boy who all the creatures love.

It was a perfect book. I totally loved it.

I made a decision to not have it anymore and ever since then I’ve ROCKED it. 🙂 I only had a few days in Prague, and I didn’t have time to go to Church of Bones, but if I had, I would have gone. I found Prague beautiful, but a little boring, so always good to have stuff to do. I’m not sure how far it is from the city and how you get there. If I ever go back, I’m totally doing that.

I’m having a horrible allergy day in Cali as well.

      • BW – you beat me to it. And, Tessa, I wrote a wine pairing to this book recently. So if you like wine, you can pair the two and tell us if it worked 🙂

Well, some book club must be reading this because all 7 copies in my library system are currently OUT! Not to worry some are due as soon as this weekend, and I’ve put in a hold request. It’ll give me time to finish some other books before I start this one.

        Thanks!
